Main Roads has released shocking footage of two women — one of whom is carrying a small child — crossing a busy freeway and walking over a railway track.
The vision, which was released on X on Tuesday, shows the women walking across three lanes of traffic, before clambering over a concrete wall — located in the middle the freeway — and crossing two train tracks.
The women — who pass the child between each other — are then seen waiting in the emergency lane before making a mad dash to the other side of the freeway.
Main Roads released the footage to remind motorists to not put yourself or others in danger when your vehicle breaks down.
“If you breakdown or are involved in a crash, the safest place to stay and wait for help is in your vehicle,” Main Roads said.
“Never attempt to cross the road in the hope of attempting to reach a safer place, especially on a major highway or freeway.
“If you’re a motorist driving past an incident, always remain alert, aware and vigilant.
“Main Roads does not endorse or condone the behaviour shown in this vehicle.”
Main Roads said its “slow down move over” law required drivers to slow down to 40km/h when approaching “flashing lights of stationary emergency vehicles, tow trucks, incident response vehicles and RAC roadside assistance patrols”.
