Police believe the body of missing snorkeler Walter Ren Gu has been found, after remains washed up north of Ledge Point on Tuesday morning.
The remains were found at Fence Reed Beach at about 7.20am, police said.
A formal identification is yet to take place, but a spokesperson said they body was believed to be that of the 32-year-old man, who went missing while diving for crayfish on New Year’s Day.
Mr Wen’s family and friends have been holding out hope that he would be found alive, after police, marine rescue and local community members were forced to scale their major search effort.
He had been snorkelling with a group of friends from Perth, but became separated from them and vanished. The group had ventured into the water at about 10am, and raised the alarm with police at about 3pm, after conducting their own frantic search for him on the crowded beach.
