Flights in and out of Bali have been cancelled following a volcanic eruption in Indonesia.

Budget airline Jetstar confirmed the cancellations on Friday, saying volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Lewotobi has grounded flights.

“Impacted customers have been notified directly and provided a range of options, including rebooking on the next available flight,” the company said.

“At this stage, there is no impact to this afternoon’s scheduled flights. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will contact customers directly if there are any further changes to our schedule.”

Mount Lewotobi is located east of Bali in Indonesia East Nusa Tenggara province, more than 1000km away.

The volcano erupted late on Thursday night local time.

Virgin Australia also expects delays to two of its Friday flights, the VA45 Brisbane to Denpasar flight and the VA91 Melbourne to Denpasar flight.
