A woman has died after a car left the Kwinana Freeway and slammed into a tree in Baldivis late on Monday night.
Police say a blue Ford Falcon sedan was travelling south on the freeway about 11.20pm when the vehicle left the road and hit a tree.
On arrival, firefighters found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
The 44-year-old female passenger suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
The 40-year-old male driver was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Kwinana Freeway southbound remains closed at Mundijong Road, with motorists urged to seek alternative routes as peak-hour traffic builds.
Major Crash investigators are examining the circumstances of the crash and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam footage, to contact Crime Stoppers.
