St Kilda star Rowan Marshall says he will only forgo his position as the club’s No.1 ruckman if it ensured improved results.
Marshall could face a positional predicament if the Saints successfully lure brilliant Blues ruckman Tom De Koning at season’s end.
Marshall, out of contract at the end of 2026, believes he plays his best as the first-choice tall but would budge on his preference if it netted more wins.
“I think I play my best footy in the ruck, that’s up to wherever Ross (Lyon) wants to play me. I am happy wherever as long as we’re winning,” Marshall said.

This week’s edition of Yeah/Nahs!
“Whether that’s ruck or forward, it doesn’t really matter, as long as we’re playing well.
“My centre bounce needs a bit of work, I have been working pretty hard on that over the off-season and I will continue to work on that.
“It’s one of the only positions where you come up genuinely one-on-one with your opponent. Generally, when you walk off you know if you’ve won or you haven’t.
“I really enjoy that challenge every week and coming up against elite ruckmen like Nank (Richmond’s Toby Nankervis).”
Marshall continued his career-best form with a huge hand in St Kilda’s 82-point mauling of Richmond in round 3.
The 29-year-old says he is “really excited” by the young Saints who are aiming to play positively each week.
“I am really happy here with the way the club is going, I think we’re on the upward trend,” he said.
“I am really excited about our young side and what they can show. I think we saw that in the second half with our run.
“We know we’ve got a young side, we just almost want to take out the result and make sure we’re giving 100 per cent effort each week.
“We’re on the upward trend, it’s such a positive with our young, youthful side getting exposure into them.”
