A group of tenants in Halifax say they are fed up with chronic cockroach, mice and bedbug infestations in their homes and say their landlords are neglecting the problems.
Heather Dunham says every morning when she goes to make tea, she’s faced with a dozen or so cockroaches crawling around her counter.

At night, she says she’s kept awake by the sounds of rodents scurrying around her home.
The single mother has lived in a Spryfield apartment with her son for 11 years, and despite many requests to her landlord for help eradicating the pests, she says the issue is being ignored.
Housing advocacy group ACORN says many tenants across the Halifax area are dealing with insects, rats and other pests, as well as poorly maintained living conditions.
Dunham and ACORN are calling for stronger enforcement of Halifax Regional Municipality’s property standards bylaws.
