A man questioned about the death of a 65-year-old woman outside an Adelaide apartment reportedly told police he fell asleep on the couch then woke to find her body before calling triple‑0.

Police were called to the Esplanade at Henley Beach after a 65-year-old Wynn Vale woman was found dead about 6.20am on Thursday.

In a statement on Friday, police indicated they were still trying to piece together what happened.

“Western District CIB detectives and Forensic Response investigators attended and examined the scene,” police said.

“A male associate from the address is assisting detectives with their investigation.”

The woman’s partner told police he had fallen asleep on the couch and woke to find her body outside before calling triple‑0, 7News reports.

He was questioned for several hours at a police station before returning home late on Thursday night.

The man has not been charged.

He briefly spoke to 7News through his apartment door on Friday, but declined to comment on the incident.

The the pair had reportedly only been dating for a few weeks and had returned home from a dinner at the nearby Henley Square just hours before the woman’s death.

Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, or who has any information that may assist police, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
