A teenager is in hospital, after a suspected shark bite off a beach in Perth’s north.

Joondalup Hospital described the boy’s condition as stable, after a friend drove him from Catalina Beach in Mindarie to the emergency department shortly after 3pm on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities had no reports of shark sightings in the area, according to the SharkSmart website, but a three metre shark was spotted only 40 metres from the shore near Port Beach in Perth’s south on New Year’s Eve.

More to come.
