What is it about Harley Reid wearing the Eagles’ Indigenous strip that produces highlight majors?

The Waalitj Marawar (West Coast) snared Goal of the Year honours last year during Sir Doug Nicholls Round for a superb effort out of the centre square that led to an on-the-run finish to the city end at Optus Stadium against Melbourne.

This season, it’s a new guernsey for the Eagles, but a similar result to the same end of the ground as Reid sparked his side during a second-term surge.

Reid pounced on a scrambled Saints exit out of defensive 50, took a few steps, and launched truly to the western end of Optus before celebrating with Tim Kelly in style.

The 20-year-old wasn’t done there in the second term, however. A pinpoint set-shot from similarly long range drew a similarly jubilant reaction from the blue-and-gold crowd, with Reid’s big first half helping set up a 19-point buffer at the main break.

Reid’s tally of 10 touches and three clearances to go with his pair of goals marked his best statistical half of the season, and more importantly, gave the Eagles plenty of hope as they look to finally break through for their first victory of the season.

West Coast will be known as Waalitj Marawar for Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
