Representative Eric Burlison, a two-term congressman from Missouri’s Ozarks, is unequivocal about his support for President Trump.“I love the president,” he said this week as he walked through the Capitol. But Mr. Burlison is also one of about a dozen hard-line conservative Republicans who have said they cannot back their party’s budget blueprint to unlock Mr. Trump’s spending and tax cuts, even as the president is imploring them to support it in a vote that could come as early as Wednesday.“I can’t live with myself if I go back home and I added more debt and deficits without any kind of…

The Islamic State has been showing renewed vigor in Syria, attracting new fighters and increasing the number of its attacks last year, according to the United Nations and U.S. officials, further raising the threat of instability in a country that is already volatile after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad.The group is still nowhere near as strong as it was a decade ago, when it controlled eastern Syria and a large part of northern Iraq, but there is a risk, experts say, that the Islamic State can find a way to free thousands of its hardened fighters who are held…
What’s most striking about President Trump’s tariff war is that he’s being pressured by some of his closest advisers and supporters to end the crusade that has upended the world economy. It’s not just media conservatives like Ben Shapiro, Rich Lowry, Ben Domenech and the Wall Street Journal editorial page. It’s longtime wealthy donors like Ken Langone, co-founder of Home Depot, who denounced the tariffs and cited the 46 percent levy on Vietnam as an example of “bull****,” telling the Financial Times that “right now what everybody’s terrified of is a trade war.” Another billionaire, hedge fund investor Bill Ackman said, “The…
