JERUSALEM: The Israeli military said on Sunday (Apr 13) an attempt to intercept an incoming missile launched from Yemen was likely successful after air raid sirens sounded across Israel. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Sirens could be heard in Jerusalem around 6.16 pm local time (11.16 pm, Singapore time). The military had initially said two missiles were believed to have been launched from Yemen but shortly afterwards said only one had been fired. Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi movement has launched missiles and drones at Israel since the current war in Gaza began in 2023, saying it was acting in support of Palestinians. A predawn Israeli strike on al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, the last major hospital providing critical healthcare in northern Gaza, has sparked condemnation in Palestine and across the world as Israel continues to attack healthcare facilities. Israel on Sunday claimed it struck a Hamas command and control centre at the hospital, without providing evidence, while Hamas denied the allegations. The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, which runs al-Ahli Hospital, condemned the attack, saying it occurred on “Palm Sunday, the start of the Holy Week, the most sacred week of the Christian year.” It said the twin strikes demolished the hospital’s two-storey…

Lutnick’s comments on ABC’s “This Week” flagging the coming levies on critical technology products mark the latest twist in President Donald Trump’s tariff plans, which have upended the global trading order and roiled financial markets since they were announced on what he branded “Liberation Day” on Apr 2. Late on Friday the Trump administration granted exclusions from the steep reciprocal…
Gabon’s military leader Brice Oligui Nguema has won the country’s presidential election by an apparent landslide, according to provisional results. His main rival, Alain Claude Bilie-By-Nze, had won some three percent of Saturday’s vote, according to the initial results. Nguema, who had been instrumental in ending 55 years of dynastic rule of the Bongo family, was widely expected to win the eight-candidate race. On election day, Bilie-By-Nze had warned about “potential” problems during the counting, but Nguema said…
