Washington — The FBI disrupted a 20-year-old sophisticated malware network used by the Russian government to collect sensitive information from hundreds of infected computers across 50 countries, the Justice Department announced Tuesday. Dubbed “Operation Medusa,” the FBI says its court-authorized neutralization of the Kremlin-backed hackers in the U.S. succeeded, thanks to a digital tool called “Perseus” that turned the malware’s functionality against itself and forced the program to self-destruct on infected computers. Officials say the malicious software known as “Snake” served as a covert avenue by which Russia’s intelligence forces stole and transmitted information from a targeted victim base that included NATO…

Talks between WestJet pilots and their employer dragged on Friday as the union warned a walkout could come as early as next week, leaving passengers’ travel plans up in the air. The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents some 1,600 flight crew at WestJet and subsidiary Swoop, said it is poised to file a 72-hour strike notice — but not at the earliest opportunity at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday.“I’m fairly certain that I won’t be putting the strike notice in tonight,” said Bernard Lewall, who heads the union’s WestJet contingent, in a phone interview from outside the negotiating room…
Moscow has acknowledged that its forces had fallen back north of the battlefield city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, in a retreat that the head of Russia’s Wagner private army called a “rout”. The setback for Russia comes after reports of Ukrainian advances around the city and suggests a coordinated push by Kyiv to encircle Russian forces in Bakhmut, which has been Moscow’s main objective for months during the war’s bloodiest fighting. It means both sides are now reporting the biggest Ukrainian gains in six months, although Ukraine has given few details and played down suggestions a long-planned counteroffensive had…

This type of spending is of concern, according to Wannaphong from Ramkhamhaeng University. The cost of the state welfare program could fund an entire national semiconductor industry, he argued. “The current government has paid about 20 per cent of the population for about five years. And there’s no evidence so far that this policy works, but they’re going to continue it,” he told CNA. “If you look at the broad theme of the policy, they’re going to deal with the ageing society, the poor and increase the welfare state. So overall, there’s nothing wrong with that. But there are alternative…
In Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Black people had two men at the forefront of racial equality, justice, and the civil rights movement. However, during their lifetime, both men only met each other face-to-face once and didn’t speak much to each other. Although both men fought for the same cause, their methods were different. While Dr. Luther King was more of an advocate of Integrationism who preached peaceful dialogue as the best form of advocacy, Malcolm X was a Black Nationalist activist who encouraged African Americans to fight racial oppression with whatever means – and weapons. Both men criticized…
Broken cease-fireFor the past three days, a Palestinian group and the Israeli military have been exchanging rocket fire and missile attacks across the Israel-Gaza border. It’s the most intense burst of violence in months.
