A rural suburb has been plunged into lockdown after shots were reportedly fired, with police swarming the neighbourhood and declaring an emergency situation.
Queensland Police said the emergency declaration was made in Purga – a rural locality west of Ipswich – under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) following reports of gunfire.
“Police were called to an address on Ipswich Boonah Rd around 4.35pm following reports of shots fired,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
Early information suggests no one has been injured.
The PSPA was declared at 5.45pm, with an exclusion zone established around the area.

The zone is bounded by Ipswich Boonah Rd to the west, Hughes Rd to the north, Eastfield Crt to the east and Carmichael Rd to the south.
Police have urged members of the public to avoid the area, and anyone inside the exclusion zone is being asked to remain indoors until further notice.
More to come.
